Reported Medicine Shortage

A medicine shortage occurs when a pharmacy, medicine retailer or healthcare institution tries to order a medicine from a wholesaler, but it is out of stock despite being expected to be available on the market. In such cases, the supply of the medicine is insufficient to meet demand or patients’ needs.

The Icelandic Medicines Agency (IMA) is responsible for monitoring the availability of medicines to minimise the impact of medicine shortages on patients and the healthcare system.
