To apply for home nursing services for residents within HSU’s service area outside of Árborg, or for home care services (for residents of Árborg), an application form must be completed and submitted electronically through HSU’s data portal.

Home Nursing Care

A request for home nursing care or home care services may come from the patient, relatives, hospitals, or other institutions. Nurses, together with a professional from elderly social services, assess the individual’s need for home nursing care.

Home nursing care is intended for people living at home who require regular services, for example due to illness or following sickness or accidents. The service may include:

• General personal care and monitoring of mental and physical health

• Administration of medication

• Wound dressing changes

Home nursing care is available to individuals of all ages who live at home and require individualized and targeted nursing care in order to live as normal a life as possible.

The goal of home nursing care is to provide individualized, targeted, effective, and professional nursing services, enabling those receiving the service to continue living at home under as normal conditions as possible despite illness, declining health, or aging.

Home nursing services are provided by registered nurses and practical nurses, depending on the individual’s needs, in cooperation with family physicians. There is also extensive collaboration with social services and other support service providers.

After a request for home nursing care has been submitted and the individual has been assessed for eligibility, a nurse will make contact and arrange a home visit.

The decision to provide home nursing care is based on a nurse’s assessment following information gathering. Emphasis is placed on evaluating whether and how home nursing care will improve or support the health and wellbeing of the individual and their family.

Home Care Services in Árborg

Home care services in Árborg are integrated and provided jointly by the South Iceland Healthcare Institution (HSU) and the Árborg municipality.

Home care services refer to services provided in the individual’s home, including: Home nursing care, Social support services and Home rehabilitation

Applications are reviewed at joint meetings of the home care reception and assessment team, where representatives from HSU home nursing services, Árborg social support services, and home rehabilitation services jointly evaluate applications.
