Psychologists work at all the main centres of HSN, treating children, young people, their families and adults 18 or older.
Special emphasis is on service for children and families with children, pregnant women and parents of infants.
Psychologists cooperate with schools and social services, for example.
Referral from a doctor is needed for an appointment with a psychologist. However, in certain cases, midwives in antenatal care, nurses in infant health care, school nurses and school psychologists may also refer to a psychologist.
Payment is in the same way as for other interviews in the primary healthcare centres (free for children, disabled persons and elderly people).
A referral is required from a physician, infant health nurse, school nurse, or school psychologist. Psychologists assess the child’s difficulties and provide appropriate treatment for mild to moderate behavioral and emotional issues, along with guidance for parents. Typically, 4–6 sessions are offered.
Emphasis is placed on providing the right treatment in accordance with the diagnosis. In certain cases, the child may be referred to a group course or group therapy.
Treatment is always carried out in collaboration with parents or guardians, who can expect to be active participants in their child’s therapy.
Collaboration is maintained with physicians, nurses, and midwives, as well as with schools and social services.
A referral from a physician is required.
This service includes assessment of the issue, treatment planning, and appropriate therapy for depression, anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder, where the condition is mild to moderate in severity.
The decision to offer group therapy or individual sessions is based on the psychologist’s clinical assessment. In cases where treatment within primary care is deemed unsuitable, the psychologist will refer the patient to other resources.
HSN psychologists do not conduct neuropsychological assessments, such as evaluations for ADHD, autism spectrum symptoms, or intelligence testing.
