If you already have the app, you can open it as usual.

  2. Open the Ísland.is app and tap Certificates in the menu at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Tap the pink tile with the coat of arms labeled Driver’s License.

  4. Show the screen that appears. It should display your photo, a barcode, and other information about your driving rights.

  5. If verification of the license is required via scanning, the person receiving it scans the barcode on the screen using another device.

How do I verify a digital driver’s license?

Information for those who receive and verify another user’s digital driver’s license. Digital driver’s licenses can be verified or validated using the scanner built into the Ísland.is app.

  1. Download the Ísland.is app and log in with electronic ID.
If you already have the app, you can open it as usual.

  2. Open the Ísland.is app on your phone and tap Certificates in the menu at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Ask the person presenting the license to open their license and turn it toward you.
    A valid license contains:

    1. A photo of the user.

    2. A recent date and time in the field Last updated.

    3. A barcode with a thin green line underneath that counts down the validity period of each barcode. The barcode and timestamp update automatically every minute.

  4. Tap the square button in the top right corner of the certificate screen on your device to open the scanner.

  5. Point your phone at the barcode on the phone of the person showing the license. Scanning will begin.

  6. The scanner displays a result indicating whether the scanned barcode is valid or not:

    1. Scanning a valid barcode returns information about the license holder with a confirmation screen on your phone, where you can see, among other things, a photo, name, and validity period.

    2. Scanning an invalid barcode returns an error indicating if something is wrong with the barcode, for example if the license has expired or is invalid.
