The Ísland.is app gives users of public services easy access to important data and services directly from their mobile phone when they need it.

The Island.is app was first released to users in March 2022. Digital Iceland is responsible for the design, development and operation of the app, which is accessible to users of Android and iPhone smartphones through Google Play and the Apple App Store. Government agencies can utilize the platform provided by the app by integrating with products and services available in the app.

Value for users

In the app, users can:

• Read and retrieve documents in the digital inbox

• View information about digital IDs and related rights

• Display digital IDs directly from the app

• Verify digital IDs displayed by others with a built-in scanner

• Received notifications about important documents and government services

• Monitor the status of digital applications with select government institutions

• View their personal information from Registers Iceland

• View information about properties and vehicles

• Create a passkey for easier access to My pages on Island.is from the app

• Update settings for notifications, phone number, email and other important preferences

All residents of Iceland who have electronic IDs can use the Island.is app.

Authentication

Users log on to the app with their electronic IDs and can then choose to use a PIN code or biometrics (face recognition or fingerprint scanner) to easily open the app. If a user wants to log out of the app, this can be done through settings.

Passkeys

In the Ísland.is app, you can now use a passkey to sign in to websites that rely on the Ísland.is authentication service, such as My pages and the Application system.
