Mandates – granting access to others
Electronic mandates can be used to grant others authorisation to handle matters on one's behalf. This allows individuals to login to Ísland.is on behalf of companies, public agencies, their children, and individuals who have granted them a mandate.
A mandate is either granted by an individual or is created due to relationships, in which case information is obtained from the agency responsible for the relevant registration.
Parents automatically have a mandate for their children until they reach 18 years of age.
Procuration holders of companies and associations automatically have a mandate for them but can also grant access and permissions to others.
Security and Traceability
When an individual logs in on behalf of others, they start by logging into My Pages on Ísland.is with their own electronic ID. Then, their mandates are retrieved from the Authorisation system of Ísland.is. An individual is always logged in to ensure security and traceability.
It's easy to define the timeframe for which mandates should be valid. The person receiving the mandate gets a notification when a mandate is created, modified, or revoked.

Limited Role
Please note that electronic mandates through Ísland.is have a limited role and are only useful with public entities that have activated them.
They can for instance not be used:
As a mandate for relatives to gather information and/or perform financial actions in banks. Banks have forms for such mandates.
As a mandate to handle tax return submissions. These need to be applied for with Iceland Revenue and Customs.
As a mandate with pension funds. Pension funds have forms for such mandates.
As a mandate to collect medications. Such a mandate can be set up through Heilsuvera.
