Fishing arrangements and marking of fishing gear
Nets
Lumpfish nets shall be 12 mesh or shallower.
Mesh size shall be between 10.5 inches (267 mm) and 11.5 inches (292 mm).
Until 31 August 2026, nets may also be used that are:
20 mesh or shallower
mesh size between 10.5 inches (267 mm) and 11.5 inches (292 mm)
Markings of fishing gear
Net buoys should all be equipped with a flag.
Flags should be marked with a district or ship registry number.
Bellows should be marked with a district or ship register number.
Net should be numbered from one to the number of nets that each ship has at the time.
Labels must be large and clear
According to regulation on marking of fishing gear and lost fishing gear each lead rail and floating rail must have the register number of the vessel.
Monitoring of nets
Nets shall be hauled no later than three days after they have been put into sea, an exception is made when it is prevented due to weather. Then the captain must send notification to grasleppa@fiskistofa.is that the nets could not be retrieved due to weather conditions.
Lost nets
If a net is lost at sea, it must be searched for. If the net is not found, the captain shall send a notification to the Coast Guard and to the Directorate of Fisheries, stating as precisely as possible their location.
