Legal separation and divorce
Financial settlement, official settlement procedure and statement of no property
If the spouses own property, they must agree among themselves on the division of the assets. A written financial settlement must be confirmed by both spouses during an interview with the District Commissioner.
If the spouses own real estate, a registration document must also be completed to register the real estate in question.
Lawyers or other counsellors may be consulted when a financial settlement is concluded.
If no financial settlement can be reached between the spouses, one of the spouses may submit a request for an official settlement procedure before the district court. Confirmation may be submitted to the District Commissioner that an official settlement procedure has begun instead of submitting and confirming a financial settlement.
If the spouses do not possess any property their statement to this effect shall be confirmed by them before the District Commissioner.
