Cash sickness benefits from union sickness funds
Individuals can receive payments from a union and Iceland Health at the same time.
Check with your union whether you are entitled to a sickness fund.
Members can receive payments from the sickness fund while they are sick.
An amount is a percentage of their salary.
Financial assistance from municipal social services
Social services often want applicants to apply to the Iceland Health first, in which case the following applies:
It is not possible to confirm whether you are entitled to cash sickness benefits unless an application and all documents are received.
However, it is possible to confirm when an application has been received, which is sometimes sufficient for them until the application is processed.
Rehabilitation pension at Tryggingastofnun
Cash sickness benefits are not paid with rehabilitation pension.
If rehabilitation begins at Tryggingastofnun, cash sickness benefits payments will stop automatically.
Rights with insurance companies
Note that sometimes there is a right to payments from insurance companies, for example for health insurance.
You can receive payments from an insurance company with cash sickness benefits, so you should also check your rights with them.
Other payments at Tryggingastofnun
If a spouse or child is ill, Tryggingastofnun shall check with Tryggingastofnun the right to spousal and carer's benefits or parental payments.
Pension funds
Cash sickness benefits may be paid concurrently with disability and rehabilitation pensions from pension funds.
Compensation to victims of crime
The Treasury can pay compensation for assault and harm.
