Defensive measures may include:

• Stabilising riverbanks with rock or gravel reinforcements to minimise disruption to river flow and maintain aesthetic integrity

• Constructing dikes to regulate water flow and prevent flooding.

• Implementing restorative measures to repair damaged river channels and flows.

Land and Forest Iceland and the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration are collaborating on comprehensive waterway erosion prevention initiatives.
