The Icelandic Sport Fund

Evaluation and allocation

A project must align with the objectives of the Sports Act. According to the Act, sports are defined as any kind of physical training aimed at improving physical and mental fitness, health, and vitality.

Assessment and Allocation Process

  • The Sports Committee, which also serves as the board of the Sport Fund, reviews all applications, evaluates them, and makes a recommendation for allocation.

  • The Minister of Education and Children formally decides on allocations based on the board’s recommendation.

  • Applications are assessed according to the Sport Fund’s assessment criteria (see Icelandic version of this page).

  • Assessment of applications is primarily based on the following:

    • The value and significance of the project with respect to the objectives of the Sport Fund.

    • The likelihood that the project can achieve its intended goals.

  • Applications are treated as confidential.

  • Article 3 of the Public Administration Act applies regarding the disqualification of board members or evaluators.

  • All applicants are notified whether they have received a grant.

  • A press release is issued announcing the allocation, including recipients, project names, and grant amounts.
