The aim is to enable a person who does not have assets and has no ability to pay, to file for bankruptcy.

Filing for bankruptcy with the District Court

  • The bankruptcy claim must be written.

  • The claim should be submitted to the district court where you have your legal domicile.

  • The claim and accompanying documents must be submitted in 2 copies. At Reykjavík District Court, 1 copy is sufficient.

Bancrupcty claim

Whether you get help from the Debtors' Ombudsman or file for bankruptcy directly, you claim must be submitted at the District Court.
