Permit for filming and photography in protected areas
Who Needs to Apply?
You must apply for a permit if your project involves:
Filming within protected areas, including national parks (Note: Þingvellir National Park issues its own permits)
Photography within protected areas, including national parks (Note: Þingvellir National Park issues its own permits)
What You Need to Know
Applications must be submitted by the applicant themselves (not via a proxy).
You may not begin the project or any preparations until a permit has been granted.
Processing time is up to 15 working days from the date all required documents are received.
If the project takes place within the Mývatn and Laxá conservation area, processing may take up to 30 days.
Fees
Fees are charged according to the current fee schedule.
If the review exceeds the base fee, an hourly rate will be charged for additional work.
Applications submitted within 5 working days before the project may incur an extra fee equivalent to 2 hours of expert work.

Please Note
The Environment Agency does not issue permits to restrict public access to areas due to projects — such permissions must be obtained from the landowner, police, and/or the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration, as applicable.
Permits from municipalities and landowners may be required depending on the location.
