Off-road driving permit

All off-road driving is prohibited according to the Nature Conservation Act.

There are certain exceptions to the off-road ban. For example for:

• Agricultural jobs

• Rescue operations

• Police work

• Land reclamation

• Statutory investigations

The Environment Agency of Iceland may grant a special permit for off-road driving for maintenance of cabins and emergency shelters and for film production.
These exceptions only apply when the work in question cannot be carried out in another way and there is no risk of natural disasters.
