Pay a debt to the Social Insurance Administration

Changes in your circumstances or income may affect your payments.

You must always notify us if your circumstances change and update your income plan accordingly, otherwise you may incur a debt with the Social Insurance Administration (TR).

Payment methods

If you have been overpaid according to your rights to, you have to pay it back.

Most commonly, TR automatically spreads the debt over 12 months. You don't have to pay interest.

There are several ways you can pay your debt:

  • You can pay the entire amount at once by bank transfer.

  • You can ask for a monthly reduction of your payments. TR then deducts what you owe from the payments you receive. In this case, you will be paid less each month until you have paid the full amount.

  • You can request payment distribution. You will receive a monthly payment slip in your bank.

Change the payment method

If you want to change your payment method or negotiate a payment distribution, you can make a request under Debts and contracts on My Pages or innheimta@tr.is

The principle is that you pay within 12 months. In special cases, it is possible to negotiate a longer period, but a maximum of 36 months.

Deadline or payment break

Generally, debts cannot be postponed or put on hold.

Surcharge

If you have given incorrect, misleading or insufficient information, a 15% surcharge may be added to the amount of the debt.

You can request further explanations or justification for the conclusion of the settlement through My Pages or send an email to innheimta@tr.is.
