Drone Ban over Grindavík – Updated 21 November 2024

Due to the volcanic eruption and necessary emergency and investigative flights, the Icelandic Transport Authority, at the request of the Civil Protection Coordination Centre, has prohibited all drone flights over Grindavík.

Periodic training of professional drivers - fines and detention

From 1 December, police will appeal against drivers who have not completed the required periodic training of a professional driver. They can expect fines. It can also be expected that the vehicle will be grounded until a driver who meets the conditions takes over driving. This is stated in a notice from the police.

International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Traffic Accidents, 17 November

The annual International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Traffic Accidents will be held on Sunday 17 November. The focus of the day will be on the risk of falling asleep or getting behind the wheel due to driver fatigue. The investigations of the Investigative Commission for Transport Accidents have shown that sleep and fatigue are among the leading causes of fatal traffic accidents.

Ban on drone flights 28-31 October

Due to the Nordic Council meeting held in Reykjavík from 28 to 31 October 2024, the Icelandic Transport Authority has, at the request of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, prohibited drone flights at three locations in Iceland as follows.

Courses for vehicle agents A, B and C are scheduled for October 29th at The Icelandic Transport Authority, Ármúli 2. The last day to register is Sunday, October 27th.
