Hákon Þorsteinsson and Oddur Þorri Viðarsson appointed as District Judges

The Minister of Justice has appointed Hákon Þorsteinsson as a judge with the first post at the East Iceland District Court from 1 November. The Minister has also appointed Oddur Thorri Viðarsson as a judge from the same date, who will have a post at the Westfjords District Court, but will work in all the district courts, as determined by the district court.

Rules on remote Observation of Hearings

By Act No. 53/2024, temporary authorizations for the use of teleconferencing devices in the conduct of civil and criminal proceedings before a court were made permanent. On November 1st, new guidelines for the judicial administration of the courts on teleconferencing will take effect.

The Administrative Board of the Courts has just adopted rules on form, delivery methods and confirmation of documents in court cases no. 8/2024, which took effect on July 1st.

Skúli Magnússon has been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Iceland since 1 October 2024 and Kjartan Bjarni Björgvinsson has been appointed as a judge of Landsrétt since 1 September 2024.
