Finnur Þór appointed District Judge

The Minister of Justice has appointed Finn Þór Vilhjálmsson as District Judge with his first post at the District Court of Reykjavík from 14 February 2024.
The Minister of Justice has appointed Finnur Þór Vilhjálmsson as District Judge, his first post at the Reykjavík District Court, from 14 February 2024.
Finnur Þór Vilhjálmsson completed his law degree from the University of Iceland in 2007 and in the same year qualified for representation in the District Court. From 28 September 2023, Finnur Þór has been appointed as a judge at the Reykjavík District Court. Prior he worked as a prosecutor and assistant prosecutor for the Special Prosecutor, later the District Prosecutor, and was appointed as a prosecutor from 2016. Finnur Þór has also worked as a lawyer for the Office of the Ombudsman of the Icelandic Parliament and as a member of the Althingi Special Investigative Committee on the Prelude to and Fall of the Icelandic Banks in 2008. He was also a member and co-editor of the Althingi Special Investigative Committee's report on the participation of Hauck & Aufhäuser Privatbank KGaA in the purchase of the holdings of the State in Búnaðarbanki Íslands in 2003. Finnur Þór has also taught law at university level.
