Special education in nursing and midwifery
Specialist Training is a two-year paid program of study and training, following a master’s degree in nursing, at 80–100% employment. Its focus areas are tailored to the job description of specialist nurses and specialist midwives at Landspítali. See the detailed description of the Specialist Training Program (Sérfræðinám).
Objectives of the Specialist Training
The goal of the program is for nurses and midwives to receive individualized training and gain specialist knowledge that benefits Landspítali’s patients.
The program prepares nurses to apply to the [Directorate of Health (landlæknir)] for a specialist license, in accordance with the regulations on the education and rights of nurses and midwives.
Responsibilities and Scope of Practice for Specialist Nurses and Specialist Midwives
The work of [specialist nurses (sérfræðingar í hjúkrun)] and [specialist midwives (sérfræðiljósmæður)] is individualized and diverse. It may relate to certain patient groups, wards, diseases, or specialties and often involves prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. A job description (starfslýsing) may, for example, include:

Applications
