Surgical Day Unit at Hringbraut

At the Surgical Day Unit, patients come for procedures involving:

• the abdomen

• the urinary tract

• the heart and chest

• the eyes

The unit also receives patients who:

• have visited the emergency department in Fossvogur and require further examination and assessment. Patients in need of emergency surgery are admitted to an inpatient ward.

• require short-term treatment and can return home the same day, such as after medication administration, pain management, abdominal fluid aspiration, or drainage.

Coming in for Surgery

Patients arrive at the unit on the morning of their surgery, where preparation takes place.

• Patients who do not require admission after surgery return to the day unit to recover before going home.

• Other patients are transferred to inpatient wards after surgery.
