Safe and effective service is the main goal of Landspítali and is reflected in the hospital’s strategy, operational plan, and quality policy (pdf). To ensure quality, performance measurements and active quality management are practiced. The methodology of quality management is used in continuous improvement. Lessons are drawn from incidents that occur, and feedback is used for improvement.

Risk management to prevent and prioritize
IT systems, processes, procedures, and organization are constantly evolving to best support staff, prevent errors, and provide warnings if patient or staff safety is threatened.
Risks in operations are assessed daily at status meetings in all units and for the hospital as a whole, to ensure safety and prioritize tasks.
Opportunities for improvement are prioritized based on risk assessment.
Best knowledge is the guiding principle.
Procedures are standardized where possible and are evidence based.
