A Master’s program in Clinical Pharmacy is a work-based program run in collaboration between Landspítali and the University of Iceland. Teaching takes place mainly at the hospital pharmacy and across the hospital’s wards.
There is a growing demand for the services of clinical pharmacists in Iceland, as is the case in many other countries. The aim of the program is to train and develop participants’ competence in the core elements of clinical pharmacy and hospital pharmacy, as well as to increase their knowledge to provide pharmaceutical care in real-world settings. Furthermore, the program is intended to develop the skills needed to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines in healthcare — a key role of clinical pharmacists.
The program is a three-year paid residency carried out alongside employment as a pharmacist at Landspítali. Note: Only two students are admitted each year.

Guidelines for Practical Training
Registration
It is essential to register all students, thoroughly review the checklist for students and their supervisors, submit signed documents, ensure that the student receives an identification card, and comply with health protection regulations.
The coordinators / responsible persons at Landspítali who approve students for education or training at the hospital are responsible for registering them by filling out a form and sending it to the research, education, and quality departments.
Schools that send students for clinical education handle this.
If students come to the hospital through individual staff members, those staff members are responsible for their registration.
Who should be registered?
All students, or employees in training, who are in secondary education, undergraduate studies, diploma, master's, and doctoral studies, as well as any clinical and research-related education.
All students, or employees in training, who are studying entirely or partially at Landspítali, whether it involves social, clinical, or research-related education.
All students, or employees in training, who utilize office or work facilities at Landspítali.
All students or employees in training who are working on projects based on data from Landspítali, whether involving information from databases or projects where staff or patients are the subjects.
All employees in specialist training, even if the training is combined with work at Landspítali, such as when it comes to training for specialist qualifications.
Students or staff in training, regardless of their study or work ratio.
Domestic and international students or employees in training.
All students must sign an agreement to maintain confidentiality regarding matters they become aware of during their education or work at Landspítali, which must be kept secret according to laws, instructions from superiors, or the nature of the matter.
The obligation of confidentiality remains even if the individual leaves their job, completes their studies, or ceases their involvement.
All information about patients, their illnesses, and treatments is, of course, subject to confidentiality.
A student will gain access to the electronic medical record if applicable and will then sign a declaration agreeing to comply with the applicable conduct regulations.

Access to the electronic systems of Landspítali is granted only to those students who require it for their practical training and have signed a confidentiality agreement and rules regarding the use of medical record information.
Access to electronic systems is only through the internal website of Landspítali.
Landspítali sets requirements for students and staff in accordance with occupational safety laws, procedural regulations on prevention, and recommendations from the chief epidemiologist (circular 2/2011).
It is essential for students to familiarize themselves with the following guidelines on health protection and to meet the conditions established to ensure the safety of patients, students, and staff at the hospital.
Students are subject to the safety measures that generally apply to the staff of the hospital at all times.
For Consideration According to Article 7, subsection b of the Act on Accident Insurance for Public Insurance No. 45/2015, a student studying at Landspítali is covered by accident insurance while in training. The student does not receive additional insurance protection from public entities but is strongly encouraged to consider their situation and the protection provided by private insurance. Students in clinical education enjoy the same insurance coverage regarding liability towards patients as the staff of the hospital, as they work under the responsibility of their instructors at Landspítali.
