Digital Iceland

What does an institution need to do to connect to digital postbox?

With the introduction of the Digital Mailbox, a secure connection is established between the institution’s document provider and the Iceland.is technical environment. Institutions that wish to connect to the Digital Mailbox need to consider the following:

  • Which documents they want to send to the users' Digital mailbox.

  • Where these documents are stored is in which system or systems.

  • Each person handles the technical installation in the institution's documentation system and can work with a collaborative team from Digital Iceland.

  • Need for the use of notifications to alert the user of new documents or data.

Institutions submit to Digital Iceland with information about their technical contact for the implementation of the Digital Mailbox. The institution is responsible for publishing and hosting its data and therefore needs to ensure a secure operational environment.

Benefits for an institution

  • User-friendly and accessible display of a wide range of data for users on a centralised website and in an app.

  • Savings on paper and shipping costs.

  • Increased efficiency, efficiency and data security for both individuals and legal entities.

  • Data is considered to be published when it is available in the recipient's Digital Mailbox.

  • Promote the digitalisation of governmental communications.

Role of Digital Iceland

Digital Iceland facilitates and brings an institution into collaboration with a team that helps connect an institution's document provider to the Digital Mailbox, and the programming that is required to do so. Digital Iceland is the operator of the Digital Mailbox but does not store any data. See further in the Terms of Service of Digital Mailbox.
