Contacts for children's prosperity
The law concerning integration of services for children's prosperity (link in Icelandic) states that all children and parents should have access to a service contact point for the prosperity of the child, as necessary.
The contact person shall have appropriate knowledge of services in the interests of the child's prosperity. He or she must not be connected to the child or its parents in a way that would lead to conflicts of interest.
From birth until the child has a place in preschool or primary school, the contact person is an employee of a health clinic or health institution in the child's health district. The same applies if there is a need for integration of services during pregnancy.
When a child is studying in preschool, primary school or secondary school, the contact person is an employee of the school where the child is studying. If this is not the case, the contact person is an employee of the social services of the municipality where the child is domiciled.
The contact person for children's prosperity is:
an employee in the immediate surroundings of the child and his/her parents.
the party directing the integration of primary care services in the interests of the child's prosperity.
the person who provides the family with information on services, ensures access to initial assessment, supports integration at the first level of services, and relays information if integration is needed at the second level.
The contact person's role is:
to have the best interests of the child at heart.
to collaborate and consult with parents and the child.
to provide information on services for children's prosperity.
to help ensure access to initial assessment of the child's needs.
to organize and follow up on the integration of primary care services in the interest of the child's prosperity.
to provide information to the municipality on the need for the appointment of a case manager.
to participate in the work of support teams as appropriate.
The contact person needs to:
have attended appropriate classes at the National Agency for Children and Families
meet the general qualifications according to Regulation No. 1180/2022
have knowledge and an overview of the services available in the municipality/service area.
be well connected with the children and parents he is serving.
have good relations with other service providers in the area.
