For the blind, visually impaired, and people with reading disabilities

About the Icelandic Library of Audio

The purpose of the Icelandic Audio Library is to provide those who have not been able to read printed language, library services and access to printed text. This is done by:

  • Produce materials in accessible form

  • Disseminate material to those who need it

Emphasis is placed on the service:

  • Blind

  • Visually impaired

  • Those with impaired senses or reading

  • Those who are unable, due to physical disability, to hold or handle a book

  • Students with reading disabilities should have access to learning material on an equal basis with others

The library works to promote literacy, improve access to literature and textbooks and plays an important social and cultural role.
