The Icelandic Library of Audio was founded in 1982, then known as the Blind Library of Iceland. The Icelandic Library of Audio operates according to the regulations on the library since 2013, library law no. 150/2012 and Copyright law no. 73/1972. The library is an authorized entity within the meaning of Article 19a(3) of the Copyright Act and is authorized under Article 19c(2) of the Copyright Act to use works and other material protected under the Copyright Act in the manner specified therein.
The library has an agreement with the Icelandic Writers’ Union regarding the right to make works of writing and other reading material available and distribute to its users on the basis of a copyright in the copyright law. The library has two agreements with the Icelandic Writers’ Fund (Myndstef) regarding the use of illustrations in books and the publication of book covers on the web.
