Dispute over the legal domicile of a child

Request from a parent with joint custody for a change in the legal domicile of a child

If there is a dispute between parents regarding a change in the legal domicile of a child, the parent who wishes to transfer the legal domicile of the child may send a reasoned request to the District Commissioner.

The District Commissioner shall then hold an information meeting with the parents after receiving the request. If the parents do not agree, the matter shall be referred to the district commissioner for mediation. The District Commissioner shall not make decisions in a dispute over the legal domicile of a child. A parent may decide to institute legal proceedings to require the domicile of a child.
