Anyone who meets all of the following conditions may obtain an operating permit for a car rental.
Be at least 18 years of age and have a registered legal residence within the European Economic Area (EEA).
Have a good reputation (evaluated on a criminal record certificate) and be financially competent (not subject to bankruptcy proceedings).
Hold professional liability insurance from a recognized insurance company
Not owe more than ISK 500,000 in public dues or taxes collected by the state treasury or pension funds.
Cars intended for rental owned by the applicant (does not apply for a private car rental)
Have registered their business operations with the Directorate of Internal Revenue, and the classification of the business activity must in some way relate to the relevant industry.
