Reception for sexual assault reportings

If you decide to press charges, you can book an appointment at the sexual assault complaints office.

Information needed

Information to be included:

  • name, ID number and contact information such as phone number or email address

  • a brief description of what happened

  • where and when the offence took place

Information about treatment or medical services

It is not necessary to have sought medical assistance or have received treatment for violence in order to file a complaint.

If you have received assistance or treatment for the violation, this information must be included.

For example, if you have searched for:

  • medical services

  • psychological or psychiatric services

  • other services, such as Stígamót, Kvennaathvarfið, Drekaslóð or other organizations that support victims of violence.

If you have received medical assistance or treatment, this information must be included so that police can prepare for your arrival and the correct forms to request documents. You must give consent.

Other information

Other information to be included:

  • if you need interpreters and which languages

  • if a disabled persons rights officer is needed, from which municipality

  • whether the appeal relates to another case

  • whether you are already with a court officer
