Payment participation for purchase of children's glasses or lenses

All children under the age of 18 are entitled to receive payment from the state for the purchase of glasses or lenses.

Amount and frequency of reimbursement

The amount and frequency of reimbursement depends on the type and strength of the glasses and varies depending on the age of the child:

• 0 to 6 years old are entitled to

• 7 to 12 years old are entitled to

• 13 to 17 years old are entitled to

Apply for reimbursement

An application for reimbursement must be completed with information on:

• type and strength of the glasses,

• the amount of glasses and the date of purchase,

• name of the store where the goods were bought,

• bank information.

Application accompanying documents:

• An eye certificate (visual measurement) from an eye doctor or optician, which specifies the type and strength of the glasses.

• A detailed payment receipt showing the price of glassware.

The observatory may need to call for further data and contact them by e-mail.

Payment time for refunds

Applications are processed as soon as possible after all supporting documents have been received. Refunds may take up to 4 weeks.

• In the bank statement the refund is marked “Ríkissjóður Íslands”.
