Payment participation for purchase of glasses or lenses

You may be entitled to a refund for the purchase of glasses or lenses, if you meet the conditions.

General

Adults may apply for a refund every three years for purchases of binoculars or lenses if they:

• are without aphasic eye stains (aphaki)

• are myopia gravis 12 or more

• microphathalmia 10 or more

• have lustering lens (luxation lentis)

• need to wear prismag glasses due to double vision

• need to change the intensity of the spectacles significantly (at the discretion of the specialist eye care professional) due to eye disease or surgery, such as keratoid keratosis, after corneal transplant or retinal ejection surgery

Amounts

The amount of reimbursement depends on the type and strength of the glasses. The refund is never more than half of the price of the glasses purchased.

Apply for reimbursement

The application must be completed with information on:

• type and strength of the glasses,

• the amount of glasses and the date of purchase,

• name of the store where the goods were bought,

• refund information.

Application supporting documents

• A copy of the eye certificate, which indicates the strength of the glasses.

• A detailed receipt showing the price of glassware.

The observatory may request further data and contact them by e-mail.

Payment time for refunds

Applications are processed as soon as possible after all supporting documents have been received. Refunds may take up to 4 weeks.

• In a local bank, the refund is marked “Ríkissjóður Íslands”.
