Each board member possesses good knowledge in the field of consumer affairs and Icelandic legal practice. The appointment of Board members is furthermore intended to ensure that the perspectives of both consumers and sellers are represented in the handling of cases.
The secretaries handle complaints, communications with the parties, provide guidance and prepare cases for the board. They are lawyers.
Board members and the Board’s staff are bound by confidentiality with respect to all matters relating to their work for the Board. Board members are required to act impartially in the handling and resolution of cases. Any Board member who is disqualified from participating in a case shall not take part in its preparation, consideration, or decision, in accordance with Chapter II of the Administrative Procedure Act No. 37/1993.
