The Children’s Hospital at Hringbraut

Service

The Children's Hospital at Hringbraut provides specialized, family-centered healthcare for children and adolescents up to 18 years of age

According to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, every child has the right to stay with other children and have a parent or close relative present during hospitalization. Children must be treated with respect and their privacy protected.

At the Children’s Hospital, emphasis is placed on:

  • Respecting the rights of children and patients

  • Following the Child Prosperity Act to ensure timely and appropriate services for children and their families

  • Providing care that addresses the physical, mental, and social needs of children, with family well-being as a guiding principle

  • Promoting well-being based on the hospital’s core values of care, professionalism, safety, and progress

Children and families are reminded to maintain confidentiality regarding other patients.

Waiting lists and appointments

Appointments are made according to healthcare waiting time guidelines. Parents will be contacted once an examination or procedure is scheduled.

The playroom is staffed by preschool teachers.

  • Monday to Thursday: 9am to 3:30pm

  • Friday: 9am to 12pm

School

The hospital school is for all children of compulsory school age who are admitted to the Children’s Hospital and unable to attend their regular school due to long-term illness. Upper secondary students staying at the hospital are also welcome.

Social work

Social workers at the Hringur Children's Hospital support children and their families in dealing with the multifaceted psychosocial situations that can arise in connection with a child's chronic and difficult illness.

Housing for relatives

Parents from outside the capital area can rent an apartment while their child is admitted to the Children’s Hospital. The apartments are provided by the Support Association for Children with Cancer and the Children’s Hospital. Inquiries: mottakabh@landspitali.is.

Pastoral care

  • Hours: Weekdays from 8am to 4pm

The hospital chaplain offers support, family meetings, and follow-up for all, regardless of beliefs. The chapel is open for quiet reflection when not in use for meetings or services. More about pastoral care at Landspitali.
