About the program
General information about the program
The study program is a twelve-month course specifically designed to enhance the innovation skills of participants through formal instruction and project work under the guidance of both local and international experts in innovation and development. The program is intended for those interested in working with solution-oriented and creative approaches to technical, scientific, or operational issues in healthcare in Iceland. Participants will become familiar with the possibilities and characteristics of innovation, learn about the legal and funding environment, and gain connections to the job market in Iceland.
Students will learn to understand and implement innovation projects under supervision throughout the training period. The program is diverse and provides a comprehensive insight and skill set to develop good ideas and bring them to fruition. It is critically important to increase the number of clinical staff with innovation skills to address the challenges of modern healthcare with new methods.
For Whom
The study program is suitable for clinical professionals who are interested in creating new solutions that benefit patients, staff, or improve operations. The program is demanding and requires active participation to meet the academic requirements, with work being done in both shorter instructional sessions and continuous project work. The first group of the program will consist of specialized residents and specialist physicians from Landspítali, while specialized residents admitted to the program will have the opportunity to pursue their studies alongside their specialization. Registration will also be open for selected lectures and workshops for other clinical professionals interested in enhancing their skills in innovation.

Upon completion of the program, students should:
Have foundational knowledge of innovation and the practical application of innovation in developing new solutions.
Possess strong innovation skills.
Be well-acquainted with the innovation environment and know where to seek knowledge, skills, and find collaborators.
Have knowledge and understanding of ethics, data protection, and the legal environment of innovation.
Be knowledgeable about the funding environment and financing of innovation and entrepreneurial projects.
Recognize the importance of good documentation, understand the significance of well-written procedures, and be able to outline various types of computer systems.
Understand digital development processes and improvement and development processes.
Be able to implement ideas in project work under supervision.
Composition of the Program and Teaching Methods
Teaching methods are diverse; they include traditional lectures, workshops, and practical sessions, along with a number of masterclasses led by experts and leading figures in the innovation environment. Additionally, participants will be assigned a mentor and will have the opportunity to develop and implement their ideas. Mentors will be selected based on the content of the ideas, and project work and mentoring are only available to those enrolled in the program.
