Objective
The training is based on the curriculum of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) in the United Kingdom, adapted for use in Iceland and approved by the Evaluation and Credentials Committee in 2019, with an update in 2023.
Locations
A full six-year specialist training programme in emergency medicine is offered, with the requirement that at least six months must be completed as clinical training at a hospital abroad that is officially recognised in that country for specialist training in emergency medicine. Part of the training is also expected to take place in the emergency department at Akureyri Hospital.
