Landspitali Hringbraut has a pharmacy that dispenses prescriptions, mainly for outpatients and patients who are being discharged.

Prescription delivery

You can ask for prescriptions (electronic or in storage) to be prepared by:

• calling 543 8234 on weekdays between 8 and 10 am, to have your medication dispensed the same day.

• send an e-mail to: lyfsedlar@landspitali.is (phone number must be included), to have your medication dispensed within 1–2 days.

Medication dose dispensing

Pharmacies offer medication dose dispensing, where medicines are packaged and labeled for each individual dose. This improves medication safety and can be a cost-effective solution for patients over time.

To start dose dispensing, the doctor must select “Dispense in dose packs” on the prescription.

It is important to always take medicines as prescribed. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the doctor who prescribed the medication or your general practitioner.

Prescription renewals

If prescriptions need to be renewed later, this is usually handled by your local health centre or doctor’s office.

An exception applies to special exemption medicines, which can only be prescribed by specific specialists. In those cases, please contact the secretary of the relevant specialty — for example, the neurology secretary for renewal of specialist neurological medications.
