Occupational Therapy, psychiatric ward, Hringbraut

Services

The Goal of Occupational Therapy is to enhance and maintain physical, mental, and social functioning in daily life.

Occupational therapists work in both inpatient and outpatient departments, focusing on assessment, diagnosis, and community reintegration. The rehabilitation period varies by department, and therapy is provided through individual and group sessions.

  • Occupational therapists and assistants operate within psychiatric rehabilitation units, various outpatient teams, and the Activity Center (Virknisetur).

  • They assess the need for occupational therapy in interdisciplinary collaboration with team members within each department.

  • Occupational therapy is a person-centered process aimed at improving skills and participation in daily life, both within and outside the hospital.

  • The individual is viewed within their environment, and therapy focuses on their strengths.

A variety of activities are used to enhance skills related to daily life at home, work, play, and leisure. The goal is to create opportunities for engaging in meaningful tasks that foster interest, joy, and self-confidence.

Theoretical Framework

Occupational therapists in psychiatric rehabilitation base their practice on:

  • The Model of Human Occupation (MOHO)

  • Empowerment approaches

  • Recovery-oriented services
