Services

The ward provides care for patients with neurological disorders, offering specialized diagnosis, treatment, and support.

Patients from all over Iceland are admitted

The ward receives patients with conditions affecting the brain and spinal cord, such as:

  • Stroke and other cerebrovascular disorders

  • Motor neuron disease (MND)

  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)

  • Epilepsy

  • Parkinson’s disease (PD)

  • Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS)

  • Myasthenia Gravis (MG)

Most patients are admitted through the Landspítali Emergency Department.

Clear information is provided about:

  • the condition and diagnosis

  • investigations and treatment

  • nursing care and prognosis

Emphasis is placed on good communication with patients and their families.

Therapeutic Support
  • Physiotherapists and occupational therapists provide treatment and guidance to support mobility and daily activities.

  • Social workers assist with rights and entitlements, housing options, and health and functional assessments.

  • Speech and language therapists assess patients’ speech and swallowing abilities.

  • Dietitians offer advice on fluid and nutritional intake.

  • Psychologists provide psychological and emotional support or therapy.
