Intensive Care Units at Landspítali
Landspítali operates two intensive care units:
E6 in Fossvogur
12B at Hringbraut
These units provide specialized intensive care and continuous monitoring for patients with serious illnesses, after major surgeries, or following accidents. Both adults and children are treated.
Visiting Patients
Family and friends are encouraged to visit patients.
Upon arrival:
Use the intercom outside the unit to announce your arrival.
After that, you may enter the waiting area and wait until a staff member escorts you to the patient’s room.
This helps minimize disturbance to other patients.
Please note:
Various procedures and examinations are carried out on the ward, which may require only essential staff to be present.
You may be asked to step out temporarily during visits, for example, if a procedure or examination needs to be done.
Between 8am and 11am, the unit is especially busy, and visitors may have to wait outside.
No more than two visitors per patient at a time, out of respect for others.
Please silence your phone.
Children as Visitors
Children are welcome but should be well-prepared.
Explain to them in advance what they will see on the unit.
A support person is available to speak with children before or after the visit if desired.
