The Mood Disorders Inpatient Unit provides care for individuals with mood disorders as well as other mental health challenges. Emphasis is placed on holistic, recovery-oriented care with the goal of enhancing quality of life and promoting recovery.

About the Unit

• The Mood Disorders Inpatient Unit is an open ward located on the 2nd floor of the main building of Landspítali at Kleppur.

• The unit accepts admission requests from, among others, inpatient wards and outpatient teams within the mental health services, community mental health teams, and primary healthcare.

• Individuals admitted to the Mood Disorders Inpatient Unit often present with complex difficulties that require a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach and care.

The philosophy and treatment approach are based on recovery-oriented care and psychiatric rehabilitation. This means active participation of patients in their own treatment, decision-making, and empowerment, with the goal of maintaining and enhancing their skills and abilities to improve their quality of life.
