Service

HÖT is a multidisciplinary team of nurses and physicians with expertise in the treatment of patients who need to use internal or external ventilators. The team works with patients who struggle with respiratory failure due to lung disease, muscle atrophy or accidents.

The HÖT team’s mission is to

  • assess respiratory capacity and identify changes that require ventilator treatment.

  • provide individualized treatment in consultation with the patient and family.

  • provide education, advice, support and follow-up with outpatient services, home visits and calls.

  • provide advice for staff at Landspítali and other health institutions.

  • organize education three times a year for families and caregivers at the Landspítali military hospital.

Objectives

  • Ensure the best possible treatment according to the latest knowledge.

  • Respect the autonomy of patients and family members in decisions regarding treatment.

  • Provide specialized and effective services for patients, families and caregivers.

Service organisation

  • The home ventilator team operates every working day from 8 to 16

  • Team meetings are held on Tuesdays after noon and then walk-in is organized in the outpatient ward A3 according to the needs of each patient.
