Family role
People at Grensás have experienced serious illnesses or injuries. Rehabilitation can take a long time and is similar to a full-time job. It is:
normal for patients to feel tired, even without doing much. Energy increases over time.
important to ask questions and seek explanations from staff or family members.
If you have concerns or feel upset about a loved one, you can always talk to staff, who are ready to guide and support you.
The Support of Family and Friends Matters
Rehabilitation is a full-time job that requires active participation. It is important for patients to practice what they learn in therapy and apply it to daily life. Family and friends can:
Help boost confidence after an illness or injury.
Participate in care, visit, and make the day brighter—for example, by going outside with the patient, bringing food, or personal items.
Goal-Setting and Family Meetings
A goal-setting meeting is held at the start of rehabilitation. The patient and team set goals and an estimated discharge date.
A family meeting is offered early in the stay. The treatment plan and goals are discussed, as well as how the family can provide support and what services are available after discharge. It’s helpful to bring questions and notes to the meeting.
