About Endocrine Disorders Endocrine disorders result from imbalances in the body’s hormone function. Hormones regulate many of the body’s processes and travel through the bloodstream between organs. Such imbalances can affect multiple systems and are a root cause of many diseases.
Common endocrine disorders include:
Obesity
Diabetes
Thyroid diseases
Osteoporosis
Pituitary and adrenal gland disorders
Certain types of hypertension
Diabetes outpatient clinic
Diabetes means that blood sugar levels are higher than normal. The condition develops when the body produces too little insulin and/or insulin does not work effectively. Insulin is a hormone that allows sugar to move from the bloodstream into the body’s cells, where it is used for energy. When insulin function or production is impaired, carbohydrates from food are not used properly and blood sugar rises.The following patients should be monitored in the outpatient clinic:
Type 1 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes with severe complications or high risk of complications:
Active foot ulcer or history of foot ulcers/problems
Severe eye disease
Severe nerve damage
Kidney complications
Type 2 diabetes patients who:
Have difficulty reaching treatment goals
Are on complex or multi-drug therapy
Are on complex insulin therapy
Note: New patients are only accepted with a referral from a doctor.

Let staff know that you are coming for a diabetes outpatient appointment.
Come for tests a few days before your appointment.
A mid-stream morning urine sample should be submitted once a year or as instructed by your doctor.
Measurements at arrival
Blood pressure, height, weight and waist circumference are measured.
Bring with you
If you use an insulin pump or continuous glucose monitor, make sure to upload the data before you arrive. If you run into any problems, the outpatient clinic can help.
If you use a blood glucose meter, bring your measurement results.
If you monitor your blood pressure at home, please bring those readings as well.
