Service Goals
The Emergency Team at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (BUGL) is a specialized team responsible for assessing the severity of acute mental health issues in children and adolescents. The team receives calls during business hours to evaluate the need for intervention.
If an immediate intervention is deemed necessary, a further assessment of the child/adolescent’s condition takes place. The child/adolescent, along with their guardians, will have an interview with the BUGL Emergency Team. In consultation with the guardians, a plan for intervention is then made, either at BUGL or within their local community.
If it is determined that the child/adolescent's safety needs to be secured, a decision is made as to whether an emergency admission to the BUGL inpatient ward is necessary.
After BUGL’s involvement has concluded, the Emergency Team sends a written summary of the emergency assessment's findings to the family's general practitioner and other local healthcare providers.
