Emergency inpatient ward for psychiatric and substance use disorders 32A is a 16-bed ward specialising in the care of individuals with dual diagnosis, i.e. severe mental illness and substance use disorder.
Emphasis is placed on multidisciplinary teamwork where biological, psychological, and social factors are assessed in order to understand and address both conditions.

Treatment Approach

The treatment approach is tailored to the needs and abilities of each individual and is based on recovery-oriented and harm-reduction principles, as well as motivational interviewing.

  • Purpose of admission: To achieve minimal stability in order to make use of other treatment options, if desired.

  • Average length of stay: About five days.

  • Collaboration: The ward works in cooperation with other units within mental health services, such as the outpatient psychiatric and addiction clinic, according to individual needs.

  • Substance use: Individuals are not permitted to use substances or any medications other than those provided on the ward during admission.

  • Withdrawal treatment: Provided as needed and assessed by professionals. Withdrawal treatment is available to everyone, regardless of whether the person aims for a drug-free life or chooses to continue substance use.
