Pre-dialysis outpatient clinic

The aim of the pre-dialysis outpatient unit is to improve the well-being and safety of patients with chronic renal failure and prepare them for dialysis treatment.

Arrival for haemodialysis at the Landspítali Dialysis Unit

  • It is good to wear comfortable, wide clothes that are easy to wash. When choosing clothes it is good to consider that blood and other fluids can go into them. If access to a vein is in the arm, it is convenient to wear a t-shirt or a warm T-shirt so that it is easy to access it. If access is up to the neck, it is best to wear a warm T-shirt, shirt or blouse that can be completely squeezed down the front.

  • For consideration of fellow patients and staff, it is recommended to avoid fragrant cosmetics. This also applies to visitors to the patient.

  • It is recommended to eat at home before you arrive for haemodialysis. Light snacks and drinks are offered. It is allowed to bring lunch with you.

  • All medicines used, whether prescription or not, must be taken with you for the first haemodialysis. The department's doctor will review them and register them in the Landspítali system.
