The unit is located in the mental health services building at Landspítali, Hringbraut 33D.

The detoxification unit for minors is a specialized addiction psychiatry ward.

It serves minors struggling with severe substance use problems combined with acute psychiatric issues. Its role is to closely monitor potential withdrawal symptoms following heavy substance use and to provide support and guidance to the admitted youth and their families.

The unit is staffed by a multidisciplinary treatment team with expertise from the addiction psychiatry ward, the child and adolescent psychiatry ward, and the emergency department at Landspítali, in collaboration with the Government Agency for Child Protection and child protection committees across the country.

Expected stay

Youth are typically admitted for 1–3 days, after which other treatment options take over.
