The Acute Inpatient Unit for Mood Disorders is a 17-bed general acute ward for patients with a wide range of psychiatric conditions.
The ward primarily provides care for patients with:
Mood disorders
Mania
depression with or without psychotic features
other psychiatric conditions
It also provides care for patients requiring electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
Additionally, the unit offers specialized treatment for:
Severe eating disorders
Mothers with infants
Light activities are offered on the ward, and patients also have access to an activity centre, music room, gym, and enclosed garden. Group walks are organized twice daily for those patients who are able and willing to participate.
The Acute Inpatient Unit for Mood Disorders emphasizes patient responsibility in their own treatment and encourages patients to take part in activities.
