An agreement was signed between dentists and Iceland Health and it entered into force on September 1, 2024. The dentist shall familiarize himself with the content of the agreement.

If a dentist wishes to work in accordance with the agreement between Iceland Health and the Icelandic Dental Association on non-hospital dentistry, the first step is to notify the Iceland Health. To do so, go to the website of Iceland Health – Iceland Health – select the field Health Services and put in the subject "Application for a service agreement – dentist". The dentist shall also provide information on where and when he/she intends to commence work.

Before an application for a service contract can be approved, all the required supporting documents must have been submitted, i.e. a copy of an operating license, a copy of a confirmation from the Directorate of Health for the operation of a clinic and a copy of professional liability insurance from an insurance company, in addition to which an application for patient insurance must be submitted through the Iceland Health Data Portal. In addition, a power of attorney must be obtained from the Icelandic Dental Association. In order for the supporting documents to be delivered in the correct form to the right place, they must be sent through Iceland Health Data Portal. Once an application has been submitted, the dentist will receive the terms and conditions for access to the Iceland Health's information system for electronic signing.

When the dentist has submitted all of the above documents, he/she shall submit an application for a service agreement here.

When all the required documents are available, the dentist receives a service agreement for electronic signing.

Iceland Health does not pay bills for work carried out before the service agreement has been signed.

It is the dentist's responsibility to submit the application and the required documents to Iceland Health.

If a dentist intends to move to another place of work and/or add an office, the following information must be available before the person in question begins work at the new location.

• Confirmation from the Directorate of Health that the dentist in question fulfils minimum professional requirements for the operation of the health service that was notified (must be available before the commencement of operations at the practice that the dentist moves/adds to his or her practice).

• Confirmation of professional liability insurance (voluntary liability insurance) from an insurance company.

• If there is a change in employment ratio, it is important to update the registration for patient insurance on Iceland Health Data Portal, so that the total employment ratio is registered.
