Maternity and paternity leave
For parents who take leave from paid employment to care for a child.

If you are on maternity or paternity leave, we encourage you to send us information about any additional payments or changes in income. Payments might have to be paid back with a 15% surcharge. Send us an email: faedingarorlof@vmst.is.
Maternity and paternity grant
Maternity and paternity grant is for parents who are in full-time education, are not on the labour market, or in less than 25% employment.
Bereavement leave or grant
Grants for parents who experience the loss of a child. Bereavement leave payments are intended for parents who take leave from paid employment. Bereavement grant is for parents who are in full-time education, outside the labour market or in less than 25% employment.
Travel expenses
A residence allowance is intended for pregnant parents who need to stay away from home for necessary services related to childbirth.
Adoption
Parents with pre-approved adoption from abroad are entitled to an adoption grant.
